Protection sign campaign: Successful conference in the Rheingau-Taunus district!

In the Rheingau-Taunus district, the police organized a groundbreaking conference on November 13, 2024 under the title "#aktion Schutzschild". This unique event fell as part of the important “Break your silence” campaign and brought together specialists from daycare centers and primary schools to discuss the huge protection of children and adolescents. Organized by Sven Opitz, the youth coordinator of the police directorate, the conference in the fully occupied Aartalhalle in Taunusstein-Neuhof was opened with an impressive contribution from the mayor, which underlined the relevance of the topic.

With various lectures, the day became an impressive exchange of information. Sven Opitz himself gave a deep insight into the procedure of the police in connection with sexual abuse of children. His presentation not only illuminated the dramatic development of the number of cases, but also the methods that perpetrators use. In addition, the alarm signs that should recognize specialists and suitable contacts were shown in the event of a crisis.

Martina Schött von Wildwasser Wiesbaden e.V. with her anonymized case study caused goosebumps and impressively showed how crucial the work of her advice center is. Leslie Konermann from the State School Authority informed those present about the effective concepts of the Hessian Ministry of Culture and Education, while representatives of the youth welfare office Rheingau-Taunus presented essential information on reports of child welfare.

The eventful program was rounded off by a “market of possibilities”, which gave the participants the chance to exchange ideas with the different places and take important information material home. It was a complete success and a clear sign of the importance of increased sensitization and interdisciplinary cooperation in society!
