The world of sports is opening its doors to talented young journalists. From October 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026, LAOLA1.at offers a unique opportunity for everyone who wants to gain a foothold in sports journalism. It is a comprehensive program that includes the option of an extension for a further six months. For many, this could be the start of a promising career in a dynamic sporting environment.
In order to become part of this teaching editorial team, a few requirements must be met. Applicants need in-depth knowledge of core sports such as football, ice hockey, motorsports and winter sports. A high level of general knowledge and a confident writing style are also expected. Resilience, social skills and the willingness to work a 40-hour week including weekend shifts are also required. You should also have completed military or community service.
Application and training
The application documents include a CV with a photo, a background report on a sports topic (approx. 2500 characters) and a comment (1300 characters) on one of the specified topics. These can be attached to existing publications, but are not a requirement. Invitations to get to know each other are extended to the most promising applicants.
The training in the teaching editorial team is multi-stage and offers participants comprehensive training in multimedia reporting. They are fully integrated into the online sports editorial team, which represents valuable practical experience. Great importance is also placed on social media work and editorial work, which means that young journalists are optimally prepared for the requirements of the industry.
Monthly compensation and place of work
A gross monthly salary of 1,920 euros, supplemented by Christmas and holiday bonuses, ensures that the training is also financially attractive. The activity is carried out in the 2nd district of Vienna, offering a flexible hybrid working model. This allows applicants to strike a balance between office presence and home office.
In addition to the aspects and requirements described, current trends in sports journalism show that the demand for well-trained journalists in this area is increasing. The area includes a variety of fields of activity such as research, organization, technology and public presentation.
