Michael Grabner: From NHL star to the youth coach of the Coyotes!

Michael Grabner, former NHL star, has settled in Arizona after the end of his active career and is now pursuing a new passion: coaching. The 37-year-old Villacher, who had his last NHL mission at the Arizona Coyotes, is now coaching the youth team of Coyotes. Grabner is full of praise for the Austrian talents Marco Rossi from the Minnesota Wild and Marco Kasper from the Detroit Red Wings and sees them the potential to bring other Austrian players into the NHL. In an interview with Laola1, he said: "Back then it was Michi (Raffl), Thomas (Vanek) and I. Now we have the next two, which hopefully will be the role model for further talents."

The situation in Arizona

Grabner describes the current challenge of the Coyotes. The NHL franchise has hired the game since 2024 and has to take big trips to compete against other youth teams. "The problem is that there are not so many opportunities in our Phoenix area to play ice hockey games. That is why we have to travel a lot," explains Grabner. Despite these difficulties, he remains optimistic and emphasized that there is a new arena for the coyotes behind the scenes. "After all, Arizona and Phoenix have a lot to offer and generally have a lot of market value in sports," says Grabner.

In addition to his coaching role, Grabner continues to live in anticipation of the games of the Coyotes. In a conversation with ABC15, he said that the team has young players like Clayton Keller and the promising rookie Logan Cooley, who could ensure an exciting future. "I can't wait to see the boys in action," said Grabner. He is particularly enthusiastic about Cooley's fast playing style and the skills he shows on the ice. The team opens its regular season on October 13 against the New Jersey Devils-an exciting event for fans and for Grabner, who remains closely connected to the ice hockey community.
