Spar relies on KI: New IT unit and innovative employee tools!

The largest food retailer in Austria, Spar, relies entirely on digitization and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in 2024. Spar opened a new IT unit at the Austria Campus in Vienna to attract IT talents and drive innovative projects forward. "SPAR ICS sets new standards in digitization and wants to use the innovative strength of the federal capital," said Spark board member Markus Kaser. In addition to the creation of over 50 new IT positions, the SPAR ICS employs a total of 700 experts for IT and digitization, which are distributed across several locations in Austria as well as in northern Italy, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia, such as OE24 reported.

innovative solutions for employees

A highlight of the digital initiative is the “Marketwhisperer”, a AI-based tool that answers employee questions on work processes, such as the use of discount markers or entering sick leave. This innovation aims to significantly improve communication within the branches. In an interview with Cash Markus Kaser was continuously investing in digital processes in order to work more efficiently. This includes the introduction of electronic price tags and the improvement of warehousing using digital tools.

In addition, Spar plans to align its range even more on sustainability. Kaser emphasized the importance of regional and local supply chains and announced that the organic range should be further expanded. "Pur Natur*is the strongest organic brand in Austria and is also very well received across the national borders," said Kaser. This commitment to sustainability and conscious nutrition is reflected in the corporate strategy, which strives for a transformation from a traditional supplier to a modern lifestyle provider.
