Vacancy and building land: 13 municipalities bundle forces for the future!

In the small region of southern Weinviertel, more intensely is working on the activation of empty buildings and unused building land. In a joint project, initiated by the Regional Development Association Southern Weinviertel, 13 municipalities have developed a comprehensive position paper. This document not only deals with the challenges related to vacancy, but also lies the basis for future measures for building land mobilization. The details of the project include a detailed overview of existing empty real estate and the current situation of building land prices in the region, such as Today.at reported .

collaboration for a more lively region

The mayors and employees of the building authorities of the small region have worked together to reflect on their previous successes in the activation of building land. Although the first measures showed only modest success, the municipalities have decided to bundle their efforts in the future. The position paper is therefore a concrete step towards better handling of the existing resources and aims to improve the quality of life in the region. It also emphasizes the need to create legal framework conditions that make it easier to collect taxes for unused residential land, such as Im-Plan

The paper, which was presented to the public in September 2023, will also support the municipalities in political negotiations in order to obtain funding for vacancy activation and for the demolition of expired buildings. An important requirement is that these funding is adapted to the construction of infrastructure, which blends in harmoniously into the townscape. Through the participation of the citizens and the implementation of workshops, the municipalities have created a project that aims both on the protection of the soil and the revitalization of the local cores, and possibly even has an effect beyond the region.
