Agency for alcohol poisoning: Fewer young people in clinics!

An encouraging decline in alcohol-related hospital stays for young people in Schleswig-Holstein causes a sensation! According to a current evaluation of the DAK health insurance fund, only 292 children and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 19 had to go to the hospital in 2023 due to alcohol poisoning. That is 19 percent less than in the previous year! The decline in the 15- to 19-year-old boys, who take a decline in almost 27 percent, is particularly striking. The girls also show progress with a decline of eleven percent.

The DAK relies on data from the State Statistical Office and the head of the DAK state representative in Schleswig-Holstein, Cord-Eric Lubinski, expresses itself optimistically: "The decline in the fifth year in a row is gratifying." But the warning does not fail to do: "Unfortunately, many children and young people are still literally drinking until the doctor comes," continued Lubinski. These alarming words underline the need for further measures.

prevention campaign continues

In order to consolidate the positive trend, the DAK continues its alcohol prevention campaign "Colorful instead of blue", in collaboration with Minister of Health Kerstin von der Keden (CDU). The aim is to integrate the topic of alcohol abuse into everyday school life and thus sensitize the young people. A creative poster competition against the so -called Komaslauf is also organized, with a closing date on March 31. The DAK hopes that these initiatives will help to further reduce the number of hospital stays and to keep the young people from the dangers of alcohol abuse.
