Measles warning in Wels: Health authorities appeal to travelers!
A worrying case of measles is affecting the city of Wels: As the BH Wels-Land reports, a person who was unknowingly infected with the virus was out and about in the city last week. This person was seen on December 17, 2024 at around 1:35 p.m. on bus line 485 from Wels to Thalheim near Wels, and on December 18th at around 7:08 a.m. on bus line 15. In addition, the sick person was in the Stöbich bakery at Grünbachplatz 11 in Wels on December 18th and 20th. The risk of infection is high, which is why health authorities strongly recommend that anyone who was in the above-mentioned locations at these times and is not immune monitor their health.
Particular caution is required
Contact with the infected person could be dangerous for many. If you develop symptoms such as high fever, cough or runny nose 21 days after contact, you should contact your family doctor immediately. The BH Wels-Land has warned everyone affected and strongly recommends checking their vaccination status. Measles is extremely contagious and rapid action is therefore required to prevent further spread, according to the authority's statement. However, the affected bakery in Wels, where fresh baked goods are produced, also plays a role in this context as it attracts people and could therefore potentially increase the risk of infection.
The bakery industry in Austria, known for its handcrafted baked goods, is very popular. From rustic farmhouse bread to fine cakes – the variety is enormous. Many bakeries, like the one in Wels, rely on their customers staying healthy in order to continue to offer their high-quality products. At a time when the risk of infection is an imminent threat, the importance of hygiene and safety in all areas of life, including the food industry, is further reinforced, as already indicated in the Dasschnelle.at report.
