Air pollution in Austria: Border values exceeded everywhere!
Vomp, Österreich - In Austria, the air pollutants are worryingly high! The Verkehrsclub Austria (VCÖ) has published alarming numbers that the values recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) are exceeded at most measuring points. In particular, nitrogen dioxide pollution is too high in many regions, including in VOM on the Inntal Autobahn, Vill and Innsbruck. The WHO recommendations were not only exceeded at 12 measuring points, but at 107 of 147 places examined, as reported. The future EU limit for nitrogen dioxide, which is to apply from 2030, is still twice as high as the recommended value of the WHO-a real problem for the health of the population!

The location is also alarming with the fine-dust values: At 73 out of 75 measuring points, the load due to the PM2.5 particles, which are harmful to health, was measured above the WHO level. Particularly high values were found in Graz and several Tyrolean cities. The environmental doctor Hans Peter Hutter from the Medical University of Vienna warns of the dangers of these pollutants, which can not only cause respiratory diseases, but also heart diseases and even dementia, as ORF TIROL . Despite the decline in air pollution in the past 20 years, the burden of fine dust and nitrogen dioxide remains far too high from a health point of view.
VCÖ expert Katharina Jaschinsky demands thatare required to improve air quality. The air is our "most important food", and the more pollutants in it, the higher the risk of serious diseases, especially for children and the elderly. This also means that traffic and mobility have to become cleaner. The EU requirements that have already been decided that will only come into force from 2030 are not sufficient. Therefore, the VCÖ appeals to the government of quickly adapting existing environmental laws to EU requirements and implementing measures to reduce air pollution in order to protect the health of the population, according to vcö
