Fee shock: Passport and driver's license more expensive than ever before!

The National Council is preparing for an important session on Thursday, in which the next round of budget renovation is on the agenda. At this session, the second budget renovation measures law is decided, which will have a significant impact on the costs of various documents and fees. According to vienna.at , the federal fees for a passport increase from 75.90 euros to 112 euros and for a driver's license to 90 euros.

In addition to the increases of the fees for documents, the government plans to increase health insurance contributions for retirementists from 5.1 % to 6 %. This will come into force from June 1, 2025. Interestingly, the prescription fee is not adjusted in 2026, which is a relief for many consumers.

extensive fee adjustments

In addition to the passport and driver's license fees, there are also changes to other documents. In the future, the registration certificate will cost 178 euros, while the fees for citizenship increase to 1,448 euros - that is about 300 euros more than before. These adjustments are part of a more comprehensive savings package, which, like Vol.at , is reported in several stages.

The planned budget package, which will come to vote next June, is extensive and comprises 74 articles and 72 amendments to the law. The possible changes include the restrictions when accessing the corridor board and the abolition of the climate monus. In addition, a third of the cold progression is withheld and the regulations for ankle cuffs are expanded.

financial flexibility for the AMS

Another point that is taken into account in the session affects the labor market service (AMS). The AMS is intended to receive more financial flexibility by reducing the free balance sheet reserve by 25 million euros in order to enable labor market policy subsidies. This could have a long -term positive effects on the labor market situation in Austria.

In summary, the Austrian citizens have significant changes in the fees for important documents, and the discussion in the National Council will show how the measures will affect the financial framework of the pensioners and the population as a whole. The comprehensive budget package and the associated laws are therefore of great relevance for the next few months, as well as informed.
