New psychotherapy law: Austria ensures the quality of the training!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - Vienna becomes a cradle of psychotherapy! On January 1, 2025, the new psychotherapy law in 2024 comes into force, which initiates a comprehensive reform of psychotherapeutic training in Austria. A total of 500 master's programs at public universities in cities such as Vienna, Innsbruck, and Graz are available, which is a long -demanded improvement for future psychotherapists. "This will finally implement the long requirement of our professional group after studying psychotherapy," emphasizes Barbara Haid, President of the Austrian Federal Association for Psychotherapy (ÖBVP), and is optimistic about future developments in this area, as highlighted in a report by Oots.at.
In addition to the creation of new study places, the law also brings changes in professional duties, advanced and further education as well as in complaint management. The new committee for vocational matters will help to regulate psychotherapeutic care legally in both the resident and institutional area. These structural innovations are intended to help improve the quality of psychotherapeutic care and to facilitate access for patients, as reported by pylin.com.The key points of the reform
A central element of this reform is the academization of psychotherapy. In the future, the training will include a bachelor's degree, followed by a master's degree, with other related bachelor's degrees recognized. Through the clear definition of areas of activity, psychotherapists should be able to work legally protected in order to become active up to serious mental illnesses in prevention and health promotion. In addition, the law also includes important regulations for quality assurance by improving access to psychotherapy for the population.
Barbara Haid calls up everyone involved to "think courageously and to act" in order to achieve these goals. In view of the significant changes that psychotherapy awaits in Austria, as it is also explained in the media release of the ÖBVP, the reform is a very important step into the future of psychotherapeutic practice in the country.
