30 million euros for Leipzig trams: This is how public transport improves!

Landsberger Straße, 04103 Leipzig, Deutschland - On December 9, 2024, an important step for Leipzig's transport infrastructure was taken. Saxony's Transport Minister Martin Dulig (SPD) presented the Leipzig transport business (LVB) to a funding decision over a total of 30 million euros. These funds are crucial for important construction projects that are supposed to advance the tram infrastructure in the city. The focus is particularly on the construction work on Waldstraße between Waldplatz and Leutzscher Allee as well as the route expansion of lines 4, 7, 11 and 15 and the repair of the Zeppelinbrücke, such as MDR reported

The grant, which comes from federal and state funds, is not only used for ongoing projects such as the conversion of Landsberger Straße between Coppipplatz and Hans-Oster-Straße, but also for planned extensions. The LVB invest a total of around 110 million euros in public transport in 2024, with some of these investments flowing into the infrastructure, which, according to Minister Dulig, contributes to the modernization and improvement of air quality in the city. In addition, the LVB promises that line 4 can drive again by December 20 on Landsberger Straße, so important financial support

The funding amount of 30 million euros comprises several sub -projects that have been planned since 2023. The construction projects benefit, among other things, from a new financial framework that was made possible by the municipal traffic Finance Act (GVFG). This law significantly improves the financial support conditions for the infrastructure projects of rail -bound public transport. According to Ulf Middelberg, managing director of LVB, these investments are decisive in order to maintain and develop the infrastructure for the future.
