Mourning for Auxiliary Bishop Andreas Laun: A life in the service of the faith
Andreas Laun, who was auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Salzburg from 1995 to 2017, has died ORF Salzburg reports. His death came just days after Archbishop Franz Lackner visited his sickbed. Lackner expressed his deep sadness and emphasized that the diocese mourns the loss of an important bishop who worked with dedication during his more than 22 years in office. After a fulfilled life, it is now time to accompany him on his final journey.
Andreas Laun was born on October 13, 1942 in Vienna and grew up in Salzburg. He was known for his uncompromising stance on protecting the unborn and was particularly committed to pastoral care for marriage and family. Before his appointment as auxiliary bishop, Laun worked as an educator and professor in moral theology and also held important positions in various church institutions. On his 75th birthday, which also marked the day of his retirement, the archdiocese thanked him in a celebratory service for his faithful service in the Kingdom of God Katholisch.at reported.
Work and legacy
Laun was known beyond Salzburg's borders and was considered a strong voice for the values of the Catholic Church in an increasingly secular society. In his sermons he always emphasized the need to be a “voice in the wilderness of faith” and that the Word of God was the focus. During his time in office, he gained the trust of many young people and maintained an open dialogue with them. He also celebrated his golden jubilee as a priest this year and published articles in various media, including as editor of the monthly magazine “Church Today”.
