Youth coaching: Successful help for young people in Carinthia!

The youth coaching program, which helps young people in difficult life situations, is flourishing in Klagenfurt. The majority of participants, around 80 percent, are male, have German as their native language and are struggling with integration into the professional world. Alina Rodrix from the Professional Assistance Network (NEBA) at Autark emphasizes the confidentiality, freeness and voluntary nature of these coaching sessions. These range from a week to a year, with young people with special needs even being offered support up to the age of 24. Rodrix explains: “We build trust and focus on the needs of young people.” These often have massive challenges, such as long periods without a regular daily routine or psychological problems that prevent them from leaving the house.

Youth coaching is showing success: 80 percent of young people receive help on their journey, which underlines the necessity and effectiveness of this system, which is also established in schools. The social inclusion measures of the non-profit organization Autark extend throughout Carinthia and have proven themselves for over 25 years. A concrete example from coaching: A 13-year-old student started coaching because of behavioral problems in class. The boy had sleep problems and anxiety that affected his academic performance. During the sessions, he learned to overcome his fears and developed better school behavior. “I can’t believe it was me,” he reflected on his progress after the support.

Positive changes in everyday life

This student showed that coaching can bring about far-reaching changes in everyday life. He can now sleep better and has improved his attitude towards his schooling. He even volunteers with teachers and takes on responsibility by putting things like dishes in the dishwasher. Thanks to the suggestions from the coaching, he feels more motivated and plans to become more active.

The combination of professional support and individual support is crucial. How coach-deines-lebens.de notes, trust and the willingness to self-reflect play a central role in the coaching process. The dynamic development of these young people gives hope for a positive future and greater integration into society.
