Arsenal wins 2-1 against Fulham – title race remains exciting!
Arsenal London won an important Premier League game against Fulham 2-1 on April 1, 2025. The Gunners led in the first half thanks to a goal from Mikel Merino in the 37th minute. In the second half, Bukayo Saka increased the score to 2-0 in the 73rd minute. Fulham managed to score again in stoppage time through Rodrigo Muniz, but it was no longer enough to equalize. With this victory, Arsenal remain in the race for the English championship title.
Arsenal are currently nine points behind league leaders Liverpool. Liverpool also have a game less and face Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday. The chasing pack is also an issue for Arsenal: Nottingham Forest beat Manchester United 1-0 on the same day, leaving them just four points behind Arsenal in third place. Manchester United, on the other hand, find themselves in a disappointing 13th place after suffering their 13th defeat in 30 league games.
Arsenal's history and achievements
Arsenal FC is one of the most successful football clubs in England and has a fascinating history. The club was founded in 1886 by workers at the Royal Arsenal arms factory in Woolwich. The club was originally called “Dial Square” before being renamed to what is now known as Arsenal Football Club (Arsenal F.C.). In 1913 the club moved from south-east London to the north and moved into the iconic Highbury.
Arsenal celebrated many successes in the club's long history. The successful years under coach Herbert Chapman from 1925 marked the beginning of a new era in which Arsenal won the FA Cup in 1930 and their first championship in 1931. The championship hat-trick from 1933 to 1935 represented another historic highlight. In 1970 the team won the league and FA Cup double for the first time, followed by winning the Trade Fair Cup.
Coach George Graham led the team to two more championships and several cups from 1986 to 1995. Arsène Wenger, who was in charge from 1996 to 2018, made Arsenal the top European team with three championships and seven FA Cup victories. The 2003/2004 season is particularly noteworthy, in which Arsenal became champions without defeat as “The Invincibles”.
In 2006, Arsenal moved to the Emirates Stadium, which cost 600 million euros and can accommodate 60,704 spectators. There was a period without titles during the post-Wenger era, but that ended in 2014. Under the leadership of Mikel Arteta, who took over as coach in 2019, Arsenal returned as title contenders, winning the FA Cup in 2020 and 2023. Last season Arsenal finished second behind Manchester City in the Premier League.
In total, Arsenal have won 13 league titles, 14 FA Cups and several other titles, underpinning the club's prestigious status in international football. With the recent win against Fulham, the team will continue to challenge for the title, while Liverpool and Nottingham Forest pose the challenges for Arsenal.
