Swimming kids in Lower Austria: 160 courses for small water rats!

In recent years, Austria has recorded an alarming increase in young non -swimmers, which gave rise to the foundation of the "swimming kids". This initiative has set itself the goal of taking the children aged five to ten with a total of 135 free swimming courses in 23 different baths in Lower Austria. The demand was overwhelming: over 1,000 children already benefited from the campaign, which looks back on a remarkable price utilization of 90 percent. "We have to specifically promote the swimming skills of our children and thus enable them to get safe bathing fun," said Deputy Governor Udo Landbauer (FPÖ). The plans for 2025 even provide 160 courses to reach another 1,280 children.

In addition to the proven courses, new locations such as Amstetten, Böheimkirchen and Klosterneuburg are added this year to ensure that all regions of Lower Austria are covered. In the foreground are not only used for water, but also the control of the swimming movement, so that the children can return from the water independently in an emergency. "Swimming is a fundamental ability, and the positive feedback from the parents and swimming instructors shows how important these courses are," added Birgit Fürnkranz-Maglock, President of the Lower Austria State Swimming Association. Registration for the new courses starts on January 27th at 1:00 p.m.

additional offers in water sports

The need for trained handling of water is not limited to children. The "water fleas and water frogs" also offer courses for babies, toddlers and adults in which the participants can playfully strengthen their skills in the water. These courses not only promote self -confidence, but also help with holistic fitness. Pregnant women also benefit here, since special courses for this group are offered. "Movement in the water has a lot to offer for all age groups - whether for adults or seniors," emphasizes the team of "water fleas & water frogs". This strengthens the important principle that water education and fitness in the water should take a central place in the life of people.

The "swimming kids" and the water fleas as well as water frogs are therefore exemplary for a successful approach to increase water visibility in society and to promote the fun of swimming at an early stage. As reported, it is crucial that children and adults gain access to these important educational units in order to ensure more security in the water.
