Zwettl cheers: destroyed stadium is rebuilt!
Zwettl, Österreich - A flood disaster hit the SC Zwettl Zwettltal Stadium in the 1st NÖN-Landesliga. On September 14, 2024, the soccer field turned into a raging body of water after a violent rain front had dropped. Martin Grünstäudl, the chairman of the association, spoke of a "Supergau" because the space was completely under water and the artificial turf was irreparably damaged. "We did everything to prevent the worst, but it is very bad," he said in an interview with Ligaportal when he looked at the condition of the square.
But there is hope on the horizon! Shortly before the first Advent, Grünstäudl proudly announced at the annual ceremony that the community will support the reconstruction of the stadium. "The Zwettltal Stadium is an important sports field for the city, which is used not only by SC Zwettl, but also by schools and other clubs," said the club boss in a report by the NÖN. The stadium, which was victim of the forces of nature in September, is now doing everything possible to repair the stadium. This will not only be a relief for the players and fans of SC Zwettl, but also for the community behind this important place.
The destruction of the soccer field has also raised concerned thoughts about the association's finances. "I don't want to imagine the financial damage," said Grünstäudl. Despite these dark sides, the club has the support of the community at its side, which has confirmed the renovation plans for the stadium. So the bathroom in the natural disaster doesn't seem to be the end - it could be a fresh start!
