New State Council Ehrenhöfer: Challenges for Styria are coming up!
After the change from Barbara Eibinger-Miedl to federal politics, Willibald Ehrenhöfer will be the new regional council in Styria. The 52-year-old forest expert was elected on Thursday in the state parliament, where 42 mandatars were present. 27 votes were in Ehrenhöfer, while 15 voted against him. The support came mainly from the FPÖ and the ÖVP, while SPÖ, GREEN, NEOS and KPÖ distanced themselves from him, as reported.
Ehrenhöfer, a native of Oststeirer, will lead the areas of business, work, finance as well as science and research. In his idea, the Styrian ÖVP party chairman Manuela Khom described him as a "man with expertise" from the wooden industry. This jokingly makes you say that he was "carved out of the right wood". His challenge will above all be to renovate the state budget, since Styria is currently fighting with a debt mountain of 6.4 billion euros, as from The press was highlighted
challenges and expectations
The new regional council was confident and emphasized that the concerns of the companies must be heard. He is planning to react to the challenges with foresight and in small steps. It is important to him to create clear framework conditions for the economy. However, the political opposition expressed concerns. SPÖ MP Max Lercher and the Greens underlined that Ehrenhöfer must prove themselves and demanded that his measures be evaluated to improve the reality of life of the Styrians. The NEOS also called for a "debt relief path" and a review of all expenditure of the country.
