Technical defect in the Prater: Fire brigade saves children from roller coaster!
Wien, Österreich - On April 14, 2025, the Viennese Prater experienced an exciting and at the same time strenuous day. During a technical defect on the Dizzy Mouse University Remand, two children were stuck in a car when it suddenly came to a standstill. The fire brigade was immediately alerted and was on site within a very short time. Fortunately, the emergency services were able to free the children from their predicament after about half an hour. However, this incident was not the only worrying that day.
Already on April 13, 2025, at 10:30 p.m., a power failure in the Prater led to significant problems. The failure that lasted several hours questioned the functionality of the parking garages, since the barriers did not work and many people in their vehicles were stuck. The Praterdome discotheque also had to keep the doors closed due to the power failure. The Viennese networks attributed the failure to a defective cable element. Not only the Prater himself, but also parts of the surrounding Stuwwerviertel.
frequent power outages in Prater
The incident in April is not the first of its kind. In recent years there have been repeated power outages in the Vienna Prater. The last significant incident occurred in December 2024 when a transformer frame caused failures. In view of these recurring problems, the Prater Association has appealed to the Wiener Netze to improve the energy supply at important locations, especially in the leisure sector. According to a current Statistics there are numerous districts in Vienna and the surrounding area that are affected by power outages, including the inner city and Leopoldstadt.
The data on the power failures clearly show that there were already 19 failures in April in 2025. This is in the context of the 31 failures in February and 10 in March. These statistics illustrate the need to revise the infrastructure in order to prevent such technical problems in the future. In the past, the Viennese networks have repeatedly appealed to the Prater Association to check the technical conditions and to take the necessary measures to improve.
Overall, it becomes apparent that both the incident on the universities as well as the power failure in the Prater raises questions about security and maintenance. Discussions about improvements in the energy supply system should therefore be conducted urgently to avoid such situations.
