According to the information from Elmar Mettke, the spokesman for the Erftstadt fire brigade, a total of four vehicles were involved in the incident, with two people suffering from injuries. A 36-year-old driver had opened a 63-year-old around 5:30 p.m. As a result, two other vehicles collided with the cars that had already been involved. The effects were significant: the highway had to be completely blocked, while the fire brigade's emergency services secured the accident site and removed the environmentally harmful fuel, which escaped from a damaged vehicle.

Before, on Monday morning, a similar serious accident occurred on the same route as a truck overlooked a car when changing lanes and it then collided with a van. Both drivers were also injured, whereby a car driver had to be released from his vehicle by the fire brigade and was flown to a hospital with the rescue helicopter for further treatment, such as reported .
