On Friday, two serious traffic accidents occurred on the B9 near Sinzig and Bad Breisig, which resulted in several injuries and long closures. According to the police, around 9:30 a.m. a driver drove into a tractor that was driving in the right lane without braking. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn and rest on its roof. The driver, who smelled strongly of alcohol, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the tractor driver was uninjured. The second accident occurred just 75 minutes after the first incident. Another driver skidded in an S-curve and crashed into the guardrail. He was also seriously injured, although the exact cause of the accident is still unclear. The force of the impact tore the guardrail from its anchorage and left it protruding into the oncoming lane, posing further danger to following road users. The fire brigade was deployed to secure the situation and reopen the road, while the B9 also had to be closed in this area for around 1.5 hours, according to the police.

There was also another serious accident on the B9 that occurred around 9:30 a.m. when a car collided head-on with a truck. The driver of the car was seriously injured after the accident, while the truck driver was treated at the Hainburg State Hospital. The impact was so severe that the truck's left front wheel was torn off and the vehicle plunged over the guardrail into an embankment.
