Truck accident in Latschach: Driver jumps out just in time!
On September 25, 2025, a serious accident occurred in Carinthia when a 54-year-old truck driver drove backwards to the edge of a hollow when unloading his vehicle loaded with gravel. At that moment the truck slipped into the pit below. However, the driver was able to save himself from the vehicle in time, but injured his foot. A colleague immediately provided first aid and informed the emergency services. The injured driver was flown to the Klagenfurt Clinic after the initial supply with the RK1 rescue helicopter.
The truck itself could later be recovered on its own. The Latschach volunteer fire brigade was also on duty to support the rescue and secure the scene of the accident. Such missions show how important quick help is in the event of accidents, especially in rural areas where access to medical care can be time -critical.
The role of rescue helicopters
The use of rescue helicopters has proven to be decisive for the rescue of accident victims in recent years. For example, the rescue helicopter "Christoph 22" is stationed at the Bundeswehr Hospital in Ulm and is used as a quick rescue in urgent emergencies. The team consists of a pilot, an emergency doctor and an emergency medic and is always called when every minute counts.
In such situations, an emergency doctor must quickly assess the number of injuries and the severity of their injuries. In an example, the team carried out emergency medical care in the event of a truck accident and found how important a correct diagnosis is because false decisions can have serious consequences. On a sunny Sunday, on which such a commitment took place, the team had a total of four missions, including the supply of a 14-year-old boy who had fallen by bike.
Statistical developments in the emergency services
Although the operations of emergency services have been declining in recent years, emergency rescue is still a central topic. A report by the BAST that analyzes the performance of the emergency services in 2020 and 2021 shows that around 8.09 million of emergency rescue from 13.12 million operations from the public emergency services. This corresponds to 61.7% of all missions.
Especially the alarm of emergency doctors takes place in about 16.7% of the cases, which makes around 2.19 million missions annually. The use of rescue helicopters makes a minimal share of around 0.4%, which corresponds to around 66,800 flights per year. Despite the reduced number of traffic accidents that have reached an all -time low, the training and operational readiness of the emergency services and modern medical equipment remains of the utmost importance for the quick and effective treatment of injuries.
