Cellar fire in Scharbeutz: Dramatic rescue of residents!

Scharbeutz.A dramatic basement fire in an apartment building in Kiepenbarg caused a stir on Saturday afternoon! Thick black smoke was billowing from the basement when the fire department arrived. Operations manager Sebastian Levgrün reported shocked residents standing on their balconies as the toxic smoke flowed directly towards them. Six people had to be rescued immediately with special escape hoods to protect them from the deadly smoke. One person was injured due to smoke fumes and was taken to hospital.

Fast response forces

The Scharbeutz and Haffkrug fire departments were on site with around 60 emergency services who quickly discovered the source of the fire in the basement where bulky waste was stored. “The fire was quickly extinguished,” said Levgrün. While the fire department ventilated the basement rooms with high-pressure fans, a large team from the emergency services looked after the eight affected residents. Fortunately, seven of them did not require medical treatment.

Police investigations

The police have already started an investigation into the cause of the fire. After the fire department eliminated the smoke hazard, residents were able to return safely to their apartments. A staging area was set up in a nearby supermarket parking lot to coordinate emergency services and keep the situation under control. This dramatic event shows once again how important it is to act quickly in emergency situations!
