Cellar fire in Eisenach: Four injured, fire department on a large scale!

A dramatic basement fire caused a stir in downtown Eisenach on Wednesday morning! At 8:50 a.m., brave firefighters were alerted to thick smoke billowing from a three-story residential building. Initially, rescuers feared that the fire was spreading through the attic, as worried residents stood at the windows calling for help. The situation seemed dire, and a large contingent of fire departments, even support from the Gotha district, was mobilized!

However, the true extent of the danger became apparent on site: the fire had broken out in the basement, and a burning stroller on the ground floor posed an additional threat. The fire department used its turntable ladder to rescue a total of seven people, including two children, from the building. Another five people had to be brought to safety at the rear. Among the injured were three residents, a child and even a firefighter, all of whom required medical attention.

Rescue with escape hoods

In an impressive operation, some people were rescued using an extension ladder, while others were evacuated via the stairwell using escape hoods, special breathing apparatus made of fireproof fabric. These security measures demonstrate the danger of the situation. Due to the operation, there were significant traffic disruptions around Johannisplatz, Frauenplan and Frauenberg. The fire brigade was on duty until midday to fight the last pockets of fire and ensure the safety of the building.
