The city has already received 7.8 million euros in funding from the EU-FRE program, of which two million euros should be used especially for the fire brigade, such as the Sächsische Zeitung reported.

The way to the new fire brigade

The plan provides for a total of four phases. First, the building on Gobbinstrasse is to be converted into a fire service center. This also includes that the fire brigade remains ready for use at all times. The Mayor of Görlitz Benedikt Hummel confirmed that the city was in the final phase of purchase negotiations for adjacent areas in order to create enough space for the necessary new buildings. "We expect the city council to make a decision in early 2025," said Hummel.

The urgently needed new vehicle halls are to be built in the third step. According to Anja Weigel, the fire brigade needs at least seven to nine parking spaces for modern emergency vehicles that must correspond to today's security standards. The schedule for the first construction phases stipulates that the EU funds have to be output by 2027, whereby the entire process depends on the financing and there are no rapid solutions in sight.
