Fire brigade exercise in Mönchengladbach: Dramatic freight aircraft use!

On December 9, 2024, a spectacular exercise of the Mönchengladbach fire brigade took place at 5:00 p.m. at Mönchengladbach Airport in cooperation with the airport fire brigade. A fictional aircraft accident was simulated: a freight plane collided with a handling vehicle where there were four airport employees and freight. Despite the simulation, which was realistically staged with a fog machine, the big noise and the subsequent update of a engine that kept the emergency services on trot was truly stirring.

Fast response times

Thanks to the effective alarm by the tower, the firefighters of the airport fire brigade were quickly able to be on hand. The rapid reaction of the emergency services was also reinforced by the support of the Mönchengladbach professional fire brigade. Together they carried out the rescue operation, whereby the focus was on the human rescue of the enclosed employees. This exercise not only served to check internal processes, but also formed a decisive test for the coordination between the various fire brigade units on site. The trainer, Boi Roman Crützen, then announced that all exercise scenarios could be successfully processed.

As part of this exercise, the airport fire brigade remains an indispensable part of the security concept at Mönchengladbach Airport. Such exercises are fundamental in order to be optimally prepared in an emergency and ensure the effectiveness of the rescue workers.
