According to information from noe.orf.at, the fire broke out during cooking in the kitchen and quickly spread. Initial attempts to extinguish a fire extinguisher failed, and a large contingent of firefighters was alerted. A total of 24 vehicles and around 90 firefighters move to fight the flames in the burning roof structure of the shooting range. At the same time, another serious incident occurred in Mellinghausen when a barn burned down to the foundations on Monday afternoon. According to the Diepholz police authority, as the district newspaper reported, a defective battery charger could have been the cause of the fire, while there were no signs of arson. During the extinguishing work, the firefighters heard loud bangs that came from exploding spray cans that were located near the charger. A total of 60 firefighters from the surrounding places fought against the flames, which were difficult to use due to the poor water supply: the closest hydrant was 400 meters away, so that tank fire engines had to be used in commuting.
