Fire drama in Dietikon: 30 residents evacuated, damage in the millions!
In the night of Saturday, March 15, 2025, a devastating fire broke out in an underground car park in Dietikon, Switzerland. The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. when the operations center of Protection & Rescue Zurich was alerted about dense swaths of smoke in the basement area of Schöneggstraße. In this critical situation, the Zurich cantonal police evacuated around 30 people from adjacent apartment buildings. Fortunately, there were no injuries to complain about, and all evacuates were looked after in the deployment of emergency services and were able to return to their apartments in the early morning, as Zsz.ch reported.
The fire, the exact cause of which is still unknown and is currently being examined by experts from the Zurich cantonal police, caused high material damage. Over 40 vehicles were badly damaged by soot and flames, and the total damage amounts to several hundred thousand francs. The fire brigade was able to quickly control the fire in the underground car park, which is why the Schöneggstraße was blocked after the major operation until about six o'clock in the morning. The local fire brigade, including the fire brigade from Protection & Rescue Zurich, was in action together with the Schlieren city police to cope with the situation, such as fireworld.at added.
The Schöneggstraße, as the main entrance to the affected buildings, was closed to traffic during the deployment, which granted the necessary freedom for their measures. The rapid evacuation measures and the efficient action of the emergency services ensured that worse things were prevented. However, it remains to be seen what will result in the investigation into the cause of the fire.
