Explosive fire in the garden house: Kuseler seriously injured!
On Friday evening, November 14, 2025, a violent fire occurred on the premises of a single-family home in Kusel. The incident seriously injured a 62-year-old resident, whose clothing caught fire in the fire. Rescue workers immediately took him to an accident clinic in a helicopter. The garden house where the events took place burned down completely and there were several explosions inside the house. The Kusel fire department was on site with 25 emergency services and extinguished the flames.
The cause of the fire has not yet been conclusively clarified. The criminal police took over the investigation, with an arson detection dog being used. Although there is currently no evidence of third-party negligence, an accident cannot be ruled out. In this context, it is important to consider the most common causes of fire in general.
Common causes of fires
According to the Brandschutz-Zentrale, flammable work is one of the most common causes of fire. These activities such as welding, soldering or hot gluing are not only carried out in a business context, but also in private hobby areas. Responsible handling of potentially fire-hazardous products is crucial to avoid fires.
In the private sector, this work should be carried out by trained personnel as they know the products used better and can identify potential dangers at an early stage. Caution is particularly advised with hobby devices such as soldering irons and hot glue guns, which can quickly lead to fires if careless.
Fire cause investigations and statistics
The importance of such investigations is also shown by the current fire cause statistics from the Institute for Loss Prevention and Loss Research of Public Insurers (IFS). Between 2015 and 2024, the IFS conducted around 2,000 fire cause investigations annually, with the most common causes remaining stable. Electricity and human error play a big role. There is also an increase in battery fires, which is due to the increasing use of battery-powered devices.
The evaluations of the fire incidents provide valuable information for prevention and show how important it is to take fire protection measures seriously. It remains to be hoped that the investigations in Kusel will quickly lead to clear findings and that the causes of such incidents will continue to be intensively investigated.
