Drama in Bad Ischl: Car threatens to crash – fire brigade saves driver!

On May 26, 2025, there was a spectacular accident in Bad Ischl when a car left a wet road for unknown reasons and slid into a ditch. The incident occurred on Engleitenstrasse, whereupon the Lauffen Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to rescue the accident vehicle. Luckily, bushes prevented the car from crashing completely into the old arm of the Traun, so the situation didn't become even more critical. A passer-by who observed what was happening immediately alerted the emergency services, who promptly arrived at the scene of the accident. The driver of the vehicle only suffered minor injuries and was given first aid by the Red Cross.

The Lauffen fire brigade secured the accident vehicle using a cable winch, while the Bad Ischl main fire station arrived to provide reinforcements with a heavy rescue vehicle. The car was finally lifted onto the road with a crane and handed over to the breakdown service. The operation ended at 9:00 p.m. and involved numerous forces, including the FF Lauffen, the Bad Ischl main fire station, the Red Cross and the police. This information was provided by Fireworld confirmed.

Additional accident in Mühlenweg

On the same day, the fire department in Bad Ischl was called upon again when another accident occurred with a passenger train near a level crossing in Mühlenweg. Here a car collided with a moving train. The unclear situation regarding the number of people involved led to extensive alerting of the fire department, including the Rettenbach fire station and the Bad Ischl main fire station. The emergency services also included two Red Cross teams, an emergency doctor, several police patrols and an emergency helicopter. Efficient action by the emergency services ensured that the driver of the car was able to get out of his vehicle uninjured. Fortunately, the passengers on the passenger train also remained unharmed.

The impact threw the car into an adjacent field and a crane was needed to lift the wrecked car onto a tow truck. The fire brigade quickly cleared the accident site of vehicle parts and the train passengers were taken to a replacement bus with the help of emergency services. The emergency services withdrew when it became clear that the large contingent was no longer needed. This information comes from FF Bad Ischl.

Statistical background on traffic accidents

Such incidents shed light on the general statistics in the emergency services, which are carried out every four years on behalf of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt). An analysis of the deployment data for 2020 and 2021 has shown that a slight decrease in deployments was recorded compared to previous years. In 2020/21 there were around 13.1 million operations, including around 130,000 traffic accidents. The emergency rate was 97.3 operations per year per 1,000 residents, an increase of almost 11 percent. These and other figures provide valuable context for the operations, which, like the one in Bad Ischl, show how important quick help is. The comprehensive data is on the website Bast available.
