A dramatic incident shaked Fulda on Sunday morning! At 7:50 a.m. there was a shocking accident on a railway line near Künzeller Strasse when a regional express collided with a heat trailer on which several gas bottles were stored. The Fulda fire brigade, the emergency services and the federal police were immediately alerted to cope with the dangerous Situation. There were two defective propane gas bottles under the train that were a potential risk of explosion.
The press office of the Federal Police Directorate Koblenz reported that the regional express was absorbed in Fulda at 07:30 a.m. and broke up with the derailed heat trailer shortly afterwards. Despite the immediate emergency braking of the train driver, the collision could not be prevented. The fire brigade was quickly on site and was able to control the situation. A fire brigade manager praised the cooperation with the federal police and the rail emergency manager, which made it possible to release the tracks quickly.

The evacuation of the approximately 20 passengers ran quickly, while the fire brigade secured the defective gas bottles. A total of seven gas bottles were on the tracks, with a bottle of gas escaping. Fortunately, there was no risk of explosion, and the fire brigade was able to bring the bottles to a secure area.
The railway line towards Frankfurt am Main and Würzburg was released again around 9:30 a.m. The regional express suffered damage from the collision whose amount is not yet known. A total of around 25 firefighters and six strips from the federal police were deployed. The investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident continue.
