Ahrensfelde, Deutschland - Berlin - Marzahn
A dramatic event at the Ahrensfelde S-Bahn station: On Saturday evening, a diesel train from Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn AG derailed into an inferno! At 9:45 p.m., the driver noticed an alarming smoke development in the driver's cab and acted at lightning speed. Together with a customer supervisor, he evacuated the passengers from the regional train before the flames in the front part of the train raged unstoppably. A large contingent of the fire brigade, police and emergency services raced to the site - but the train burned out completely!
This is not enough: the entire train traffic at the train station had to be stopped, while the streets around the Märkische avenue were cordoned off by the police. The extinguishing work went into the night until 0:38 a.m., with the Federal Office for Railway Accident Investigation (BEU) already confiscating the burned -out train. Fortunately, there were no injuries among the travelers, but the federal police have initiated investigations into serious arson and endangering rail traffic - without a doubt an alarming sign!
