Zelenskyy demands US help: Europe's security alone is not enough!
Kyiv, Ukraine - Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged the European nations: "Secure the future of Ukraine!" In the middle of the ongoing war with Russia, he not only demands support, but also clear guarantees for peace for the conflict. But he warns: Without the concentrated power of the United States, this will not be enough!
At a summit by the EU leaders on Thursday, Zelenskyy emphasized the urgency that Europe had to play an important role in the security guarantees for Ukraine. "We support the initiative of France for military use in Ukraine as part of these guarantees and call on other partners to join this effort. This will help to end the war," he said in a closed session.
The shadows of Trump
The discussions about the post -war order are overshadowed by Donald Trump's return to the White House. The former president has promised to end the conflict quickly, but the concerns in Kiev and the European allies are great. Could Trump reduce military support for Ukraine and force President Zelenskyy to painful concessions to Moscow?
Zelenskyy is aware of the risks and emphasizes: "The European guarantees will not be sufficient for Ukraine." This warning comes at a critical time when NATO estimates that over a million people have been killed or wounded since Russia's invasion in 2022.
no more Russian gas!
But that's not all! Zelenskyy has also made it clear that Ukraine is not ready to continue the transit of Russian gas. "We will not extend the transit of Russian gas. We will not allow additional billions to be earned on our blood, in the lives of our citizens," he said in a press conference.
Ukraine has already announced that the contract for the gastransite, which expires at the end of the year, has not been extended. While Slovakia, one of the recipients of the gas, tries to extend the agreement, Zelenskyy remains adamant: "It is somewhat shameful to talk about money during a war, because we lose people."
He added that Ukraine was ready to transport the gas of another country to Europe through its infrastructure, but only on the condition that it is not a question of Russian gas. "We need to know that we only transition gas if it doesn't come from Russia," says Zelenskyy.
The European Commission has already signaled that it is ready to let the contract expire, and all countries that relate Russian gas through Ukraine have access to alternative deliveries. Time is pushing and the future of Ukraine depends on the decisions of the European leaders and the USA!
