Azerbaijans President Ilham Aliyev said that the machine changed its course due to the bad weather conditions. Azerbaijan Airlines has exposed all flights between Baku and Grosny as well as Baku and Mothathatzkala to clarify the incident. In addition, a hotline was set up for the relatives of the passengers.

President Aliyev also declared December 26th for the day of mourning. While he was on the way to a summit in Russia, he received the news of the crash and immediately gave instructions to return to Baku.
