Russia starts the biggest drone attack on Ukraine since the beginning of the war!

Riwne, Ukraine - Russia has covered Ukraine with a historical drone attack that has been the largest so far since the beginning of the war. A total of 479 drones and 20 marching aircraft were used, as the Ukrainian Air Force confirms. Of these, 460 drones and 19 cruise missiles were intercepted, while impacts were found in ten locations in Ukraine. This massive attack follows a previous incident on June 1, in which 472 drones were used. In addition, Poland reported many aggressive Russian activities in the West Ukrainian region of Riwne, which the mayor Oleksandr Tretjak described as the most difficult attack on his region. The very coordinated attack is in the context of an impending exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine, which was originally planned for the past weekend.

While Russia demonstrates its offensive capacity, Lithuania's President Gitanas Nauseda criticizes the reaction of European countries. During a visit by Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Kiev, Nauseda expressed that the threats of sanctions against Russia remained without noticeable consequences. He also emphasizes that this endangers the credibility of the promised measures. A group of heads of state and government, which included Merz, had called for a 30-day ceasefire a month ago, otherwise far-reaching sanctions against Russia should come into force. Since this period has now expired, a new, extensive sanction package at EU level is being discussed.

Current developments in the drone war

Ukraine not only sees itself under pressure through the intensity of the attacks, but also has to deal with a significant recruitment problem. Drones have developed into a decisive factor in the course of the war. The first Ukrainian marine roar, which successfully shot two Russian helicopters, was particularly mentioned. What is striking is the high launch rate of Ukraine, which is over 90 % in Russian Shahed drones.

Russia tries to optimize the strategy through variations of the flight heights and speeds of the Shahed drones used and also uses so -called "decoys". Ukraine also becomes active in the area of electrical course management by training special soldiers in order to successfully ward off FPV drones. These FPV drones are controlled by innovative camera techniques and represent a growing threat.

The Ukrainian military strategists are also confronted with the challenges that Russia is constantly improving its technology. The fiber optic cable is used for controlling FPV drones, which increases the interference resistance of the drones. Ukraine meanwhile works on its own acoustic detection systems and improves their interference techniques. Another goal is to undermine the technological superiority of the Russian armed forces and to compensate for their own lack of personnel through the efficient use of drones.

The situation remains tense, and the upcoming exchange of prisoners of war, which is considered urgent by Ukraina's military secret service chief Kyrilo Budanow, could prevent further escalation if resolute decisions at European and international level are not used soon.
