Russian uranium for Lingen: Alarm at Lower Saxony's Environment Minister!
The fuel factory in Lingen, district of Emsland, recorded a significant increase in uranium imports from Russia in 2024. According to reports from NDR rose by around 66 percent to a total of 68.8 tons compared to the previous year. Russian uranium is about a quarter of the entire imports of the factory.
The fuel element factory processes the imported fuel tablets into fuel rods and elements for European nuclear power plants. In this context, Lower Saxony's Environment Minister Christian Meyer (Greens) expressed concerns about the growing dependence on Russian uranium and asked the European Union to decide against sanctions against such imports. He warned that Russia could expand its influence on the atomic sector through these businesses.
