This positive development also led to an increase in travel expenses by 25 % to 3.76 billion euros. On average, a traveler spent 1,283 euros, which represents an increase of 11 % compared to the previous year.

The increase in short travel intensity among the 14- to 75-year-olds, which climbed to 57 % in 2024, is particularly impressive. It seems that more and more German shorter excursions want to go to Austria. 35.7 million people traveled during this period, which corresponds to an increase of 5 million travelers. The total expenses for short trips totaled 1.5 billion euros with average costs of 422 euros per person. Even if the market share has slightly dropped from 4.4 % to 3.7 %, Austria remains a popular destination for short trips. This shows that trust in Austria's diverse offers is unbroken and does not contribute to the reduction of the travel emotion.

According to their offer, many travelers spent unforgettable moments in nature and enjoyed regional specialties, while they explored Austria's beauties. Finally, the analysis shows that 14 million Germans potentially consider a trip to Austria. These figures indicate enormous future growth potential, especially in the areas of active and nature vacation, sustainable experiences and extended short trips that should be advertised in a targeted manner. Austria remains one of the most attractive travel destinations in the Alpine region, which is highly valued for longer stays and for short trips.
