New entry regulations for EU citizens: ETA from April Mandatory!

From April 2, 2025, travelers from the EU must apply to Great Britain a paid electronic entry permit (ETA). As oe24.at , this new regulation will apply to all European citizens. The ETA costs 10 pounds and must be requested for each person individually, including children. Without a valid ETA, the entry is denied, which forces travelers to apply for approval in good time before the trip - the processing time can be up to 72 hours.

The application of the ETA is exclusively online, whereby personal information and answers to various questions are required. In addition, the applicants have to submit two digital photos. The application is currently only available in English, and the future opportunity to do this in German remains uncertain. Travelers who stay in transit and do not leave the airport do not need such approval as eta.org.uk . This regulation is part of the United Kingdom security measures to improve border protection.

milestone for entry

The new process is a continuation of the phase -like introduction of the ETA, which began in October 2023 when approval for national Qatar was introduced. Other groups have followed since then, and now the step for EU citizens is a decisive part of the British strategy to optimize the entry process for travelers from abroad. The last phase, which starts on March 5, 2025 for EU citizens, shows the progressive change in British single-time regime.
