Sensational find: 1600 years old skeleton in the Salzburg garden!

A surprising skeleton was discovered in archaeological excavations in the Garden of the Posthof in Salzburg, which could date from the fourth to ninth century AD. The find was made at a depth of two meters, where initially they did not expect human remains. Archaeologists from the Federal Monument Office were present to accompany the work. According to expert Peter Höglinger, the first assessment shows that it is probably a woman, since the remains are largely intact, but are partially destroyed by previous measures. The skeleton is currently being cleaned in the Salzburg Museum and is to be issued after the anthropological examination, as reported.

puzzling burial in southern France

Another remarkable archaeological find hits high waves in southern France: in Puisserguier, the remains of a woman were discovered, the head of which was separated from the body and stored on the chest. This extraordinary funeral type dates from the late neolithic period and already aroused great interest with its discovery in 2017. The currently published results in the specialist magazine "Antiquity" confirm that the head was solved by the spine and laid on the chest while the right hand supports the head. This unusual arrangement represents a contrast to common funeral practices of the time, in which the head was usually only removed from the body after the decay. Researchers speculate whether the woman was beheaded at the time of her death or whether this was done shortly afterwards, which the young scientists presented with an exciting puzzle. FOCUS.de emphasizes that such a burial in France has so far lifts once is.
