Pforzheim inspires the city run in Saint-Maur: second place for Michaelis!
On October 6, 2023, the 13th city run "St. Maurienne" took place in Saint-Maur-Des-Fossés, the French twin town of Pforzheim. Runners from various partner cities traveled to this renowned event, including the Pforzheim athletes. The event attracted not only athletes from Saint-Maur, but also from Leiria in Portugal and La Louvière in Belgium, which underlined the international atmosphere of the city run.
The Pforzheim delegation consisted of three runners: Andreas Michaelis, Markus Krause and Daniel Geiger. In addition to their sporting achievements, they received the support of Patricia Thoraval, who acted as a volunteer. The city administration of Saint-Maur was also actively involved in the organization, with Nathalie Joret and the deputy mayor Dominique Soulis, who ensured that everything went smoothly.
a challenging day
The Pforzheim athletes arrived the day before the competition and were housed in host families. This type of accommodation not only promoted intercultural exchange, but also gave the athletes the opportunity to get to know local life. On the competition day, all participants came to the starting line at 9 a.m. and were ready to contest the 10-kilometer run along the charming Marne.
Despite the cloudy weather, the Pforzheim runners made the route with flying colors. Andreas Michaelis set a special sign by taking the impressive 2nd place in the town twinning ranking. His success was recognized by Mayor Pierre-Michel Delecroix, who congratulated all participants. This praise underlined the importance of sporting engagement and the endeavor to further consolidate the relationships between the cities.
networking and enjoyment
After this sporting success, the participants had the opportunity to make new contacts and exchange experiences during a meal together. It was a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas not only about running, but also about cultures. The Pforzheimers were impressed by the hospitality of the Saint-Maurer and were also able to be inspired by French cuisine in order to reward themselves for their achievements.
This event was more than just a run; It was a bridge between the cities and strengthened the friendly gang between Pforzheim and Saint-Maur. The event will certainly be remembered, both for the sporting successes as well as for the warm atmosphere and the intercultural exchange.
