Vienna relies on climate formation: Over 16,000 people reached 2024!
Wien, Österreich - The Viennese climate tour made remarkable progress in 2024 and directly reached over 16,000 people. This interactive climate exhibition, which has been running through the city with a fleet of eight-e-cargo bikes since 2022, places special focus on climate formation. It is particularly impressive that 27 schools and around 5,600 students were included. "The topic of climate is particularly important for young people because it deals with the future of our city and our planet," explains climatic city councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky. The tour encouraged young people to actively deal with climate protection, which is reflected in their everyday school life.
new formats and record numbers
The variety of topics ranging from nutrition to water to energy and species protection is supplemented by innovative formats. In 2024 the tour was carried out for the first time at the long night of the churches and in adult education centers. A highlight was the artistically designed "mushroom bike", which pointed out special attention to climate education offers. There was also a creative incentives at the Film Festival at wiener Rathausplatz: visitors who came by bike received gastro vouchers. The big climate show at the end of the year attracted the audience and illuminated central questions of the tour.
The climate tour is directly related to the Viennese climate schedule, which sets the goals of the city on climate neutrality by 2040. In the first three seasons alone, more than 40,000 people took part in the tour, with a clear focus of interest in the younger generations.
The next stage has already been scheduled for the coming year: the Viennese climate tour will resume its multiple trip in April 2025. All information and the possibility of virtual participation are available at www.wien.gv.at/klimatour The tour is not only a mobile knowledge memory, but also a platform for discussion and commitment in the field of climate protection.
