Vienna relies on e-taxis: 220 electric cars fight for charging problems!
Wien, Österreich - The future of taxi traffic in Vienna will be electrically! Currently, only 220 out of a total of 8,200 taxis in the Austrian capital have been operated electrically. From January 2024, all newly registered taxis must be emission -free vehicles, which presents the industry with major challenges. "Every charging process is a potential start of service," warns Eveline Hruza, spokeswoman for Taxifunk 40100. A typical charging process at 11 kW can take up to seven hours depending on the vehicle type.
To make the change easier, the city of Vienna has set up a funding pot of 6.4 million euros for the purchase of electric cars. Nevertheless, the industry faces a serious problem: there are too few charging stations. Many of the taxi positions are not sufficiently equipped with charging infrastructure. The office of the responsible city councilor Peter Hanke (SPÖ) assured that Vienna would continuously expand Energie E-charging stations, and referred to a pilot project with charging plates at taxi stations to address these challenges, as
At the same time, the city of Vienna is expanding the public shop network for electric cars. In the next few years, 200 additional charging points for the existing 1,000 are to be built and put into operation, which will significantly improve the situation for e-car drivers. The new electric charging stations are easy to use and offer 100 percent green electricity. After a vehicle has been infected, users receive a notification on their cell phone as soon as the charging process is complete, as reported. Currently there are approximately 2,700 and half-public charging stations in Vienna, with a powerful infrastructure that promotes and supports the use of electric vehicles.
