Will calls for change: Pistorius as a new hope for the SPD!
A political earthquake is shaking the SPD! Thomas Will, the district administrator of the Hessian district of Groß-Gerau, was the first incumbent to speak out clearly against Olaf Scholz running for chancellor again. Instead, he passionately campaigns for Boris Pistorius, the defense minister, who, in his opinion, shines with government responsibility and an outstanding international reputation.
“In turbulent times, especially when people are unsettled, clear lines and decisions are needed,” said Will in an interview with Stern. He sees these qualities best in Pistorius. The SPD district administrator is convinced that Pistorius is the right choice for the future of the party. “He has government responsibility and an excellent international reputation,” adds Will, sending a strong signal for change within the SPD.
Scholz in criticism
Doubts about Scholz’s suitability are growing! Hermann Binkert, head of the polling institute Insa, is also critical: “The SPD will no longer win an election with Scholz,” he warns. “That makes almost everyone else better.” Binkert sees significantly better alternatives in Boris Pistorius and SPD leader Lars Klingbeil. “Pistorius is even viewed very positively by many voters from other parties,” he explains, thereby increasing the pressure on Scholz.
So far, Olaf Scholz has not been officially nominated as a candidate for chancellor by his own party. The early election is scheduled for February 23, 2025, and time is of the essence for the SPD to present a clear and convincing leadership. The question remains: Can Scholz hold his own against this growing opposition?
