VfB Lübeck: Members choose new supervisory boards despite internal turbulence
On Saturday, the annual general meeting of VfB Lübeck took place in the Juniper event center and attracted 190 members, including 166 voting participants. Despite internal tensions that had heavily burdened the club in recent weeks, the meeting was largely quiet. A central topic was the election of new members of the supervisory board, and the financial situation of the traditional association was also discussed in detail. Before the start of the event, those present voted for high transparency by approving access for guests and media representatives.
An important result of the meeting was the choice of three new supervisory boards. The active fan scene was reluctant and did not set its own candidates. In the end, four of the 15 candidates remained: Carsten Abbe, Paul Manthey and Jens Burchardt were elected for the next three years, while Eckhard Evers was confirmed as representatives of the departments with 123 votes. He explained that he had tried to do mediation between the various parties and commented on the internal difficulties of the association.
financial challenges and strategic considerations
A critical point in the meeting was the report of the board of the association's financial situation, which is strongly tense due to the relegation to the regional league. The personnel budget fell from 4.2 million euros in the 3rd league to only 1.8 million euros, which the responsible persons did not leave without worries. Daniela Wedemayer, the CFO, made it clear that the season remained behind the expectations: instead of the forecast 3,800 spectators, only 2,850 came to the games of the green-whites.
Although the club recorded an increase of 63,000 euros at the end of the previous season, this was far from the previously calculated target of 529,000 euros. In order for the financial challenges to be prepared, board member Dr. Dieter Gudel the need to generate additional income. The winning of the state cup in particular could be of great importance for VfB Lübeck, as this means access to the DFB Cup.
discrepancies within the supervisory board
An emotional highlight of the meeting was the appearance of the former chairman of the supervisory board Thomas Rehder. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the previous work of the Supervisory Board and made it clear that the association suffers from the decisive members. "If a supervisory board manages to upset the most important donors in the association, the Supervisory Board failed," said Rehder. His passionate appeal underlined the still existing conflicts within the organ.
After the meeting, Rehder was optimistic about the new members of the Supervisory Board and would like to flow into the committees, especially from the fan scene. This shows how important it is that the club management remains diverse and connected to home.
sports director Sebastian Harms left no doubt that the challenges on the field are also enormous. The previous trainer had not managed to bring about the desired success, and the risks of transfers would now have to be weighed up. "Romanticism stops in the 3rd league," he said, making it clear that the association has to build on its existing values and the community.
Another developed point was the need for an extraordinary general meeting until December 12 of this year in order to fill the remaining places on the Supervisory Board so that the association remains legally compliant and adaptable.
reports on the honor of long -standing members, as well as the election of the new Honorary Council, showed that despite the difficulties of the association, the association has a loyal basis that does not give up. VfB Lübeck faces a time of the challenge, both in the sporting performance and in the generation of income and in coping with its financial difficulties. "We need unity, otherwise we are not competitive", Harms summarized the situation.
