Trump insults Europe: Ex-General warns of dangerous threats!
Grönland, Dänemark - The influential voice of the former US general Ben Hodges, who commanded the US forces in Europe, rises in view of the worrying threats of the designated US President Donald Trump regarding Greenland. In an interview with the Bild explained Hodges to him "Very surprising" would if US officers would follow such commands. He considered Trump's statements about possible military missions to take over Greenland, a Danish dependency, as illegal and unrealistic. "It sounds like an attack on a NATO allied for me," emphasized Hodges, warning that such threats would destabilize NATO and use Moscow and Beijing as propaganda.
The reaction to Trump's aggressive behavior should therefore be carefully considered. Hodges advises the European countries not to react to every provocation of the designated president, but to develop trust in their own strength. "The EU people are huge," says Hodges, and he emphasizes that the United States needs Europe for both economic and security reasons. In addition, he points out that Denmark is already present with a base in Greenland and should ask Trump to strengthen the maritime capacities of his allies instead of pronouncing rash military threats. In an interview with OE24 explained Hodges, the ability to work and diplomacy was crucial to avoid escalation.
However,Hodges also warns of the potential dangers of an excessive conflict with Trump, especially in view of his threats to withdraw US atom weapons from Germany. Such a decision would make Europe vulnerable because it rely on the nuclear deterrent of the United States. "If Trump was supposed to request the nuclear protective shield from France and England, the Russians would take advantage of their strategic Position all the more skillful," sums up Hodges. In this difficult phase, he calls out to make it clear that Germany, as a strong democracy, has to take on a leading role in Europe to confidently counter the challenges that Trump brings.
