According to the current debtor atlas of the Creditreform Economic Occupry, around 130,000 people in the Free State are affected by over -indebtedness - that is about 5,000 less than in the previous year. The over -indebtedness rate in Thuringia is now 7.4 percent, a decrease of 0.3 percentage points compared to the previous year. Thuringia is one of the federal states with the lowest debt rates in Germany. Only Bavaria with 5.9 percent and Baden-Württemberg with 6.5 percent do better. On the nationwide average, the over -indebtedness rate is 8.1 percent. The reason for over -indebtedness is often unemployment, separations, illnesses or addiction problems.

The head of Creditreform-Economic Research, Patrik-Ludwig Hantzsch, explains that the uncertainty of consumers and the fear of the future lead to people holding their money together. The persistently difficult economic situation, political decisions and international crises such as the Ukraine conflict contribute to saving the savings and helping to reduce over-indebtedness.
