Weimar students demand equality in music with Voices of Women”
Weimar. A new project that wants to make more hearing to the female voices in the music world employs the students and teachers of the Weimar University of Music Franz Liszt. The “Voices of Women” (VOW) project aims to create fairer conditions for women in the music world because their interests are often overlooked.
Numerous participants as part of the project are committed to a stronger consideration of female perspectives in music and art. In the coming week, seven students will take part in a symposium in Stavanger, Norway. Experiences are to be replaced there, networks are to be built up and mutual support in an industry dominated by men.

The group is accompanied by experienced vocal professors, namely Lena Haselmann-Kränzle and Clemens Tiburtius, who will lead their own master class on October 9th. In addition, the music science student Constanze Zacharias will give a lecture on topics such as female self -empowerment in blues and jazz, which underlines an important dimension of the project.
The “Voices of Women” project is not only active at the national level, but also promotes exchange between different countries and cultures. It serves as a platform to strengthen the place of women in historical and contemporary art production, as has already been addressed this year at two conferences at the Weimar Music University.
The challenges that women stand in the music world are known beyond the Weimar University. A current survey, carried out by students from the Institute for Musicology Weimar-Jena, shows the difficulties with which female jazz musicians are faced with. These surveys reflect increasing sensitivity to gender equality in the music scene, especially among younger artists. Nevertheless, the results also show that there is still a lot of discussion and action to achieve in order to achieve equality in the industry.
The commitment of "Voices of Women" is an important step towards a fairer world of music. It remains exciting to observe how these initiatives and discussions will expand the space for women in the creative scene and increase their visibility. The current focus on gender equality is not only a social necessity, but also a profit for the entire cultural diversity that shapes the music world. Further information on this topic is find .
