Peace sounds in the Sauerland: Canteremo is looking for peace together

at a time when the longing for peace is particularly pronounced, people go in search of answers in a cultural framework. Such questions about peace are timeless and have been dealing with humanity for many centuries: How do we find peace with ourselves, with others and with God? What can we do to maintain the hope of peace? These and similar questions are the focus of a concert, which is organized by the vocal ensemble Canteremo under the direction of church music director Gerd Weimar.

The ensemble has put together an impressive program that looks back on 400 years of music history. A total of three performances in the Sauerland are planned. On November 9th at 7 p.m., music will be played in the Church of the Resurrection in Arnsberg, followed by a performance on November 10th at 5 p.m. in the Königsmünster Abbey in Meschede, where Father Vincent Grunwald OSB will speak a few words about peace. The third performance will take place on November 17th at 6 p.m. in the parish church of Maria Queen of Peace in Oberrödinghausen. Admission to the concerts is free of charge, but donations to support the choir work are welcome.

insights into the program music

The audience can look forward to a variety of musical works that look at peace from different perspectives. The program design includes pieces by famous composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Heinrich Schütz. Less well -known works, such as Rudolf Mauersberger's “Motette vom Peace”, also find their place. This choir director and composer, who experienced the destruction of Dresden up close during the Second World War, has musically processed the grief for these experiences musically in his most famous piece "How is the city is so desolate". His second major composition, the "Motete vom Peace", was created in a time of reconstruction, but is largely unknown today and has no received recordings.

The members of the Vocal Ensemble Canteremo come from a wide area that extends from Dortmund to Soest. The ensemble was founded during the Corona pandemic, and in 2023 Gerd Weimar took over the management of the choir, whereby a new artistic direction was taken.

The concerts "Search Peace" offer an opportunity to express the inner desire for harmony and peace and at the same time experience the powerful message of music. This intensive examination of peace - both in an emotional and spiritual point of view - is of crucial importance even after the last global challenges. The songs and the atmosphere of the concerts should touch the audience and meet hope. For more information about this special event, see the current report on woll-magazin.de .
