Thanksgiving service in Suhl: Celebrate 35 years of peace and unity!

An important event is imminent! On Saturday, November 9th at 5 p.m., an ecumenical thanksgiving service will take place in the main church of St. Marien to celebrate the opening of the wall. This special reason reminds of the role of the churches 35 years ago, which made a decisive contribution to changing the system at the time. With impressive prayers of peace and the light of candles, they inspired people to campaign for their beliefs and to protest peacefully.

The participants

The service is organized by the Catholic and Protestant parishes in Suhl. Among other things, the Catholic pastor Martin Montag, who was active in Suhl and the surrounding area 35 years ago, took part in the celebration. The sermon is held by the Protestant pastor Markus Heckert, who was then significantly involved in the peaceful protest in Jena and Gera. Musically, the service is accompanied by the youth choir of the parish and district cantor Philipp Christ on the organ, which also underlines the solemn atmosphere.

This event is not only a review of the peaceful revolution, but also an honorable memory of the courage and determination of the people who advocated freedom and change. Be there when the story becomes alive and the voices of the past sound in the church!
