Winter warning for Saalfeld-Rudolstadt: snow, frost and gusts of wind!

Saalfeld/Rudolstadt. Winter knocks on the door! The German Weather Service has given a triple warning for the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt: light snowfall, frost and violent wind gusts threaten at the altitudes from 600 meters. Drivers who have not yet raised winter tires should be prepared on smooth roads!

The affected areas include the Saalfelder Höhe from Arnsgereuth, the mountain railway region around Oberweißbach and the highs of the Thuringian slate mountains near Lehesten. The official warning is valid until Monday, with Frost until 10 a.m., snowfall until 12 p.m. and gusts of wind until 3 p.m. But the weather remains inconsistent: from Tuesday more precipitation could come to us!

The weather service predicts that between 1 and 5 centimeters of fresh snow will fall in the higher locations. In stores, up to 7 centimeters could even be reached! The road conditions become dangerously smooth and the risk of slipping is high. Drivers should urgently adapt their driving behavior to avoid accidents. It is not uncommon for the first snow to fall in the mountain country in mid -November, but the current conditions could cause some surprises!

The temperatures drop to values between 0 and minus two degrees Celsius in the night and in the morning. In addition, wind gusts can be expected at speeds of up to 60 km/h, which initially blow from the southwest, later from western direction. Prepare yourself for winter conditions and remain safe!
