Gotha experiences: VR project explains depression up close on November 14th!
Gotha, Deutschland - An innovative project by the Robert Enke Foundation will take place on November 14th in Gotha to raise awareness of depression. With the support of the social psychiatric service of the district office, healthy people can get a first insight into the thoughts and emotional world of people with depression through an impressive virtual reality experience. This could help to reduce prejudices and to develop a better understanding of the challenges with which those affected are faced.
The event entitled "Impression Depression" wants to explain in an impressive way how a depressive illness feels to promote empathy. While the disease often remains invisible and many people have difficulty understanding them, virtual reality technology offers a platform that enables the typical symptoms to experience up close. By wearing virtual reality glasses, the participants will immerse themselves in the world of experience of those affected and thereby gain a feeling for their sensations.

Julia Shehad, the head of the social psychiatric service, emphasizes the importance of the exchange between those affected and non-affected. "People who have depression often have difficulty talking about it. This is often due to the fact that the understanding of this disease is missing," explains Shehad. The event is carried out in groups between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., with a total of 60 interested parties have the opportunity to take part. Interested parties have to register in advance, since spontaneous registrations are not possible on site. Registrations are possible by phone on 03621 214 693/642 or by email at spdi@kreis-gth.de.
